The contact page on your website is the second or third most viewed page on your website, so it’s important to use it to its full advantage. Read on for my top five tips for a great contact page.
So, what makes a great contact page on your website? Here are my top 5 tips to oomph up your contact page.
Tip one – Make it friendly and show people how to find you
Say hello, use some humour, make it friendly. Make it easy for your customer to contact you and give more than one option.
Display your contact numbers and your complete address. If you have a tricky location, add further details on how to find you, for example – ‘located inside the medical centre’.
Include your opening hours for all locations, if you have more than one and keep them up to date.
Include a map for each location/s. A must-have on your website and a great visual aid for your customer.
Tip two – Use a contact form
Displaying your email address on a website can invite unwanted spam to your email box, I’ve had this happen. I don’t put my email address on my website for that reason so I use a form.
Use drop-down boxes to filter the type of enquiry, whether it be ‘make a booking’ or a ‘get a quote’ etc. Use whatever criteria is suitable for your business.
Refrain from using a required rule (the form fields that you must complete to send the form) on every entry, use it only on the very basic information you need, otherwise it’s just plain frustrating to fill in.
Use Captcha security. You know those annoying “are you a robot” things… despite being a little irritating, it will stop the spam.
Think about what your customer sees after they have completed your form… where do you want them to go after? Use the opportunity to direct them to a blog post or another page on your website.
Tip three – Make it mobile-friendly
With most consumers using their phones to search, contact, and call, you need to make sure that your contact information is clear and easy to read.
Your contact form needs to be easy to use and not ask for a life story, keep it simple.
Test your form from a variety of different devices to make sure that nothing is out of place and everything works properly.
Tip four – Add some links
Include links to your social media channels and encourage your visitors to connect with you.
Include a “Book a call’ button so potential clients can book a call directly into your calendar at a time that is suitable for them.
For general enquiries, link to your FAQ page to direct the customer if they have a common question.
Tip 5 – Test it!!!!!!
So very important but often overlooked but never forget to do this step. Whenever you change anything on your page or your contact form make sure that you test the page from your phone and various devices so that everything is responsive and working ok. You don’t want to lose out on any leads because of a wonky form. Check things like:
- Are the form fields easy to fill-in?
- How long did it take to fill out the form?
- Does the notification of the completed form arrive in your email box?
- Is the telephone number clickable?
- Test all the links on the page, do they go to where they are supposed to?
