On this page, you’ll find all the info you need for your project to run smoothly. Have a careful read through it to see how this process will work and what I’ll need from you before your project begins.
Establishing Trust and Roles
It’s very important that you and I have a mutual trust and clearly defined roles. You should feel confident in my ability to execute a design that fulfils your goals and likewise I should feel confident that you will provide those goals.
You know your marketplace and target audience better than anyone. So I will be looking to you to provide goals and content for the project.
As the designer, it is my responsibility to take the goals we have established and deliver a solution that matches those goals.
Complete the questionnaire.
For both website design and graphic design, I will ask you to complete a questionnaire that will outline the scope of your project and provide details of your business, customers, and what goals you want to achieve.
I firmly believe it is my duty as a designer to create value for your organisation and reach your target audience in the best way possible.
Filling out a questionnaire allows me to gain an understanding of your business, the project you are approaching me for, and what you hope to achieve as a result of working with me. It is the first step in our conversation and key for continuing further into the discovery process.
Other images and info
If you’re having a website designed you will need to upload to Dropbox (if applicable):
- Product pictures
- Any other content you want included or required
If you already have a website then I will need the log in details, username and passwords for the website. I will also need your hosting provider details and in some cases your domain account username and passwords.
Your website will be designed on a sub-domain of my website. This is not available to the public but you will be able to view it at various stages of the design process. Once the design has been completed I will transfer your website to your domain. You will not lose any downtime this way.
Proposal and Agreement
After you and I have completed the initial phase and we both have a clear understanding of the project, a final document will be sent to you containing the project goals and the terms of our agreement.
This whole process can take anywhere from 4 – 10 weeks depending on the size of your design project, information given and timely communication. Below is a break down of the website design process.
Development of a sitemap, menu set up and lots of background stuff.
This where the fun starts. I will start the design of your website with the end user in mind and I’ll bring your vision to life.
Development of working website on the WordPress content management system and SEO implementation. This is where everything is set up.
Final testing and debugging on development server before launching. During the design process I will ensure that your website looks as it should on mobile devices. This final testing period is to make sure everything looks perfect.
Break out the champers because this is when you go live with your brand new functional website!!!!!
As a business owner, I’m sure you understand the need for getting paid on time. So we’re both on the same page, I’ve outlined the payment schedule below. If you believe this schedule to be problematic for you, please let me know as soon as possible BEFORE the contract is signed so that we can discuss an alternate schedule.
Payment is based over 3 instalments.
50% of the project cost is due on signing the contract/agreement, before work begins and to secure your spot on my schedule.
30% of the project cost is due after the design phase.
20% at the end of the project before launch. Please keep in mind that the final balance must be paid in full before the final files are provided and/or website launch.
100% of additional costs for stock images, licenses or any additional features added to the project is due before website launch If applicable.
Your quote is based on the scope of work at the beginning of the project, as well as the timeline outlined. If you wish to add or change the scope of work, and if the timeline changes due to these changes or additions, these costs will be billed as additional costs and must be paid before website launch.
How long does it take to build a website?
Depending on your project it usually takes approximately 4 – 10 weeks.
As long as all the information required by you is sent to me in a timely manner, the project should go as specified in the agreement.
Do I need to provide images?
If you have particular graphics – logos etc or professional photos of your business then yes. However, I can source images to use throughout your website design to match match your brand.
Do I need to write my own content?
Not necessarily. I can create your content so that it includes keywords specific to your industry so that search engines are able to find your website easily. This will be an additional cost.
What platform will my website be built on?
I use WordPress to design your website. WordPress websites are the easiest and most powerful blogging and website content management system (or CMS) in existence today. I love it!
What’s involved in a consultation?
I like to visit my clients, it allows me to get to know your business and get a feel of what you are all about.
If you live on the Central Coast, Newcastle, Lake Macquarie or the Hunter then I can possibly come and visit your place of business and over a cuppa we can have a chat about your project. However, if you would prefer me not to visit then that’s ok too and we can chat on the phone.
How does the payment process work?
After the agreement between us has been signed then a 50% deposit of the total cost will be invoiced at the start of your project. After that the remainder will be due in 2 seperate instalments.
What method of payment do you accept?
I accept either a direct Bank deposit or payment by credit card via PayPal.
Are there any ongoing fees?
Yes. You will need to pay for hosting for your website, this can be done on a monthly basis to keep it affordable.
You will need to renew your domain name every couple of years depending on where you purchased it from.
If you would like me to manage your website and keep it updated on a regular basis then an affordable monthly fee (depending on the work you want doing) will apply. Please head to the WordPress Care Plan page for further details.
